End-user license.
What you may do with the tools, what they do to your Mac, and what you take responsibility for.
Last updated 2026-11-02
This agreement is between you and Matheus Meirelles da Silva ("we"). It covers every doomscrolling.sucks tool (today, Recess) in trial and licensed use. By installing a tool you accept it.
1. The license
With a valid doomscrolling.sucks license key, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the tools on one Mac at a time, for as long as you like. Without a key, you may use each tool for a 14-day trial with every feature. You may move the license between Macs by deactivating one and activating another, including through the recovery page.
2. What you may not do
- Share, publish, sell, rent or lend your key, or activate it for someone else.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or modify the tools or the licensing service, except where the law allows it regardless of this clause.
- Redistribute the installer, or bundle the tools with other software, without written permission.
3. What the tools do to your Mac
You install the tools knowingly. In particular, Recess:
- installs a system service that runs with administrator rights and restarts itself;
- edits the hosts file and adds resolver entries so the websites you list stop resolving during focus time, and places a filtering DNS resolver in front of a VPN's resolver when one is active;
- quits the applications you list during their block, and closes browser tabs on blocked sites;
- seals its configuration with a password you choose, after which the lists, the schedule, pausing and uninstalling need that password.
Uninstalling, with the password, removes the service and restores the settings it changed.
4. The password is yours
We never receive your password and have no way to reset, recover or bypass it. If you forget it and have given it to no one, you may be unable to change the configuration or uninstall the tool without administrator-level work on your own Mac. You accept that risk; it is the product working as designed. Blocking also keeps running when the trial ends or a license is deactivated or refunded; only configuration changes need a license.
5. Activation and privacy
Activation sends the key, a hash of the Mac's hardware identifier, the Mac's name and the app version to our server and stores a signed token on the Mac. The daily update check, which you can turn off, sends only the app version. Nothing else leaves your Mac. Details in the privacy policy.
6. Updates
Updates are published on this site and are covered by your license. We are not obliged to provide updates, and a future tool added to the suite may require a newer macOS than the one you have.
7. Ownership
The tools, their code, icons, names and this website remain our property. This agreement gives you a license to use the tools, not ownership of them.
8. Ending the agreement
You may end it at any time by uninstalling the tools. We may deactivate a key that was shared publicly, obtained by fraud or a reversed payment, or refunded, in which case this license ends and you must uninstall. Sections 4, 7 and 9 survive.
9. Warranty and liability
The tools are commitment devices, not security software, and their limits are published. To the extent the law allows, they are provided "as is" and we are not liable for indirect losses, lost time or data, for anything a blocking schedule or a forgotten password costs you, or beyond the amount you paid. Nothing here limits rights consumer law gives you that cannot be waived.
10. Law
This agreement is governed by the laws of Portugal; disputes go to the courts of Lisbon, except where mandatory consumer law of your own country says otherwise. Questions: contact@doomscrolling.sucks.
