Terms.
Plain words about what you buy, what you get, and what each of us promises.

1. Who you are dealing with
doomscrolling.sucks and its tools are made and sold by Matheus Meirelles da Silva, an individual trader established in Lisbon, Portugal, tax number (NIF) 334861721. "We", "us" and "our" below mean that person. These terms apply to this website, to purchases made on it, and to the use of the tools, together with the end-user license, the refund policy and the privacy policy.
2. What you buy
You buy a doomscrolling.sucks license: a license key that unlocks every tool in the suite, present and future, on one Mac at a time, under the end-user license. Today the suite is Recess. The price is $49 (US dollars), or €43.80 (euros) for customers in Europe, paid once. Both prices include any VAT or sales tax due: the amount shown before you pay is the amount charged. There is no subscription and no account.
Each tool is also free to try for 14 days with every feature. Please try before you buy.
3. Payment and delivery
Payment is handled by Stripe under its Managed Payments programme: Stripe acts as the merchant of record for the sale, which is why your receipt and invoice come from Stripe (Link), your card statement reads LINK.COM* DOOMSCROLLING SUCKS, and Stripe calculates and collects any VAT or sales tax. We never see or store your card number. Your license key is generated and emailed to the address you give at checkout immediately after the payment clears, from licenses@doomscrolling.sucks. That email is your proof of purchase; keep it. Lost it? Recover it here.
4. Immediate delivery and the right of withdrawal
Your key is delivered immediately after payment. For digital content delivered that way, the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal that consumers in the European Union, the EEA and the United Kingdom have for distance purchases can end once delivery begins with the consumer's agreement (in Portugal, article 17 of Decreto-Lei n.º 24/2014); by buying, you ask for immediate delivery. Stripe, as merchant of record, applies the consumer-protection rules of your region to the sale. Independently of all that, every purchase comes with our 14-day money-back guarantee, so you keep a 14-day window either way.
5. Using the license
- One license is active on one Mac at a time. You can move it: deactivate on the old Mac, activate on the new one. If the old Mac is gone, the recovery page frees the license from every Mac.
- The license is personal. Don't share, sell, publish or lend the key. We may deactivate keys that are shared publicly, obtained through fraud or a reversed payment, or refunded.
- Activation and an optional daily update check are the only times a tool talks to our server; the privacy policy lists exactly what each sends.
6. What the tools do, and don't
Recess is a commitment device: it blocks the websites and apps you choose, during the hours you choose, and seals that configuration with a password you set. Read this before installing:
- We do not know your password and cannot reset, bypass or remove it. Uninstalling needs it. Choose it with care, and keep a copy somewhere, or with someone, you trust.
- When the trial ends, or if a license is refunded or deactivated, blocking keeps running exactly as configured. Only configuration changes need a license.
- The tools change system settings on your Mac to do their job (the hosts file, DNS resolver entries, and the resolver a VPN publishes), through a service installed with your administrator password, and restore them when uninstalled.
- The tools are not a security product. An administrator who really wants them gone can remove them; browsers with forced DNS-over-HTTPS can bypass the website layer; already-loaded pages can linger for a few seconds. The limits are published in full.
7. Warranties and liability
We build the tools with care and support them personally. To the extent the law allows, they are provided "as is", without warranties beyond those described on this site, and we are not liable for indirect losses, lost time or lost data, or for the consequences of a blocking schedule or a password you chose. Our total liability for a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived, including under Portuguese and European Union consumer law and the consumer law of the country you live in.
8. The website
The site uses no cookies and no account. Downloads are signed and notarized installer packages; install only what you downloaded from this site. We may change the site, the tools and their prices at any time; changes do not affect licenses already bought.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version published when you buy applies to that purchase. Material changes are announced on this page with a new date.
10. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Portugal. Disputes go to the courts of Lisbon, Portugal, except that consumers may rely on the mandatory law and courts of the country they live in where that law so provides. Before anything formal, write to contact@doomscrolling.sucks; most things are settled with one email.
Consumers can also turn to an alternative dispute resolution entity. In Portugal these include the Centro Nacional de Informação e Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo (cniacc.pt) and the Centro de Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo de Lisboa (centroarbitragemlisboa.pt); the full list is at consumidor.gov.pt. Complaints may also be filed in the electronic complaints book at livroreclamacoes.pt.
